Adorning the body with
jewelry is an ancient custom found in every society. I wonder if the desire to ornament oneself is innate?
Even babies do it. They often find things around the house and drape
over themselves. makes me wonder if even early man wanted to decorate themselves with those things they find around themselves...not necessarily because they are symbolic, but because they are pretty.
Ornamentation could represent individualism in some ways, and also social status.
The Sumerians and Egyptians went to great lengths to decorate themselves as far back as
3,500 BC. Here we have two hugely successful long-term early civilizations which supported great numbers of artists who created personal ornamentation objects.
When someone wears jewelry today, it's often for a reason: sentimental, romantic, religious, etc.
In America the practice of body piercing has recently become very popular. Young
people are getting several parts of their bodies pierced either as an affirmation of their personal individuality, as a means of sexual gratification or stimulation, a reclamation of their bodies from physical or emotional trauma, or for as a means of adornment.
Although body piercing is "in" tight now, Ms. Morte does not
encourage adding holes yourself in places that were hole-less when you were
born.
Ms. Morte's
jewelry tip of the day: Avoid all
jewelry over ten pounds in weight -- it attracts unwelcome attention from tourists, policemen, various supernatural creatures, and can be downright dangerous during thunderstorms.

love them until death. You can also get one for your friendly

Silver
Skull Charm
If you re a bone lover I recommend this beautiful
piece of macabre jewelry. The skull seems to have much more
personality than the long bones,
the rib cage, or a knee cap.

Some cultures believe that wearing a bat as a talisman

Or if you are like Ms. Morte, you think the wrinkly little faces of
